Rights Respecting Assembly

On Wednesday the Rights Respecting Ambassadors did an assembly to the school about making further links with a school in Nepal. We are hoping to be writing letters to The British School in Kathmandu. Students from this school have posted a video of an example of the charity work they are doing to help the Nepali schools:

What we would like to do
•We want every class to write to The British School;
•What could you write or draw about?
•Who you are; what our school is like; congratulate them in helping the local schools; say that we would like to help their charity work more;
•Of the United Nations 17 Global Goals, which ones do the local schools need most help with?

•Using the replies from Nepal, we will campaign to raise awareness and funding for the issue that is mentioned most.
Good luck with the letters – these should be handed-in to us by the end of March;

Playtime Charters

The Rights Ambassadors have been working with their classes to get ideas about what would make lunch times happier. We have come up with our playtime charter.
Don't the boards look great up in the playground?

Day for Change Assembly: Launching our new playtimes

Today we held our annual Day For Change. We wore blue to recognise the changes needed in childrens' lives around the world and raised lots of money for UNICEF.

We chose today to launch our new playtimes with lots of equipment and our brand new playtime charter. This is our change at Shaftesbury Primary School and we hope it will lead to happier children! Our rights ambassadors led the assembly, well done to them!

Arts Week and Day of Change

We had an important assembly today, learning about how all children have the right to an education. Y4 read out the letter that they received from UNICEF(United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund). The letter thanked Y4 for raising money.
We also had a presentation from the Rights Ambassadors. They had surveyed the responses from the Rights family homework and found the most "popular" of the rights:
  1st - Education
  2nd- Safety
  3rd-  Health
Shane and Alfie showed their wonderful models that they had done for this homework.
The school then showed all the Rights wall-hangings. All the classes started these during Arts Week early in January. What fantastic work!
